Rites of Passage: Fraternity Initiations
uss-special: [Trigger Warning: Sexual violence and harassment against women.] “Most societies around the world have some sort of ceremony that marks a boy’s transition to manhood. Many of these involve some test of courage. Anthropologist David Gilmore claims that one reason so many societies incorporate tests of masculinity and torturous initiation rituals for males is that the male identity...

I imagine Somebody that I Used to Know by Gotye would be the background music as I pass completely groundless judgement on people walking down the street that I don’t know. but that’s just me.

Dear graduates, the real world is fake
90skidandcompany: By Leloy Claudio The Philippine Star I said goodbye to my graduating students today. The farewell was visceral. Five year ago, I was in their shoes, excited about starting a career while anxious about leaving behind the comforts of university: 15 units, org time, college romance, perennial grade consciousness, blockmates, etc. Graduation, as the cliché goes, is when you begin...

I made friends with a cat today.
a clingy, somewhat filthy, scrawny, restless cat.  we fed it tuna.  it would not stop moving. we brought it to the vet for a professor to pick up.  the veterinarian dewormed it and put it in a cage while it waited for its new owner. it’s a sad moment when you realize that a cat shows you more affection than someone who has human feelings for you. but whatever.
