I don’t think the only thing in the world to ever get excited about is other people. of course your relationships with them are important, and they are important to who you are and what you do. but can you really live without living for something that matters to you? your nation, your degree, your beliefs? can you really just sit idly by when things that affect you, directly or indirectly, are changing and being challenged? I understand the need to accept where you are and how things are, and I do believe that there are some things that cannot be changed. but if you never get upset about anything — that is, you don’t feel strongly enough about anything to get upset about it — then how will you ever be enthralled by anything? I believe that a healthy amount of fury (directed at some party that goes against something you go for) is good to have. I think it’s one way to maintain your condition of not being dead inside.
Facebook is a great social networking site for keeping in touch with friends, sharing photos, playing games and condemning alleged killers to a punch in the face. Nowadays, you can even use it to put a stop to violence against women with just the use of the “like” feature.

in any subject — GE, minor, major, elective, NSTP, PE, any subject at all — missing a class can hardly be called a good move. intentionally skipping class is even worse, especially if those 90 minutes are dedicated to something unproductive. I admit that more than once I have cut class, sometimes to take care of other more urgent requirements, other times because I was running late and had already surpassed the fifteen minute grace period, and in a few instances, frankly, just because I was feeling tired or lazy.
in my two-going-on-three years in UP Baguio, however, I have not yet missed a walk out. the walk out of 2010 was for the fight against the state universities and colleges budget cut, and this year the battle for the people’s right to an education continues.

I think it’s a really beautiful analogy. I’ve read interpretations where people disapprove of comparing a loved one to a rose in the midst of a battle, because it implies that the subject is fragile and in a way it’s anti-feminist. but I personally think it’s more of a way of saying that the rose represents something good to hold on to when times are hard - as they naturally are in the state of war. it would be something comforting, a relief from the harsh conditions we so often find ourselves facing.. a sort of David’s Star that assures us that there is good in this world, even in the middle of the desert, even on the battlefield of social issues and personal grief.
