platonic vs. romantic: pet names

there’s the guy you address, “hi, boyfriend” but both of you know you’re not in a relationship and you’re just joking around because you’re that close.

there’s the one to whom you say “thank you, mahal” - and you’re both aware that you love him like a brother.

there’s the boy who calls you “baby” and vice versa, but it’s just a term of affection between intimate friends who are comfortable with each other.
